NDN SPAM MACHINE is a mailing list for a variety of culturally sensitive and timely communiqués. Ranging from political to ceremonial to humorous to music and art, use NDN SPAM MACHINE to get your message out!
Currently in indigenous communities around (what is now called) North America, NDN SPAM is the information transmitted across a very robust network of hundreds of thousands of users everyday via the electronic ‘moccasin telegraph’ (aka the internet). Though spam is known in the computing world as a nuisance, an unwanted presence and depending on even (depending on the amount and variety a server delivers to your inbox, a threat to the well-being of your computer. For aboriginal people though, we largely still have a very different level of acceptance about what spam is and how can be beneficial and good for us!
Also known as ‘indian steak (1), spam, klik, kam, bologne and/or any other processed meat has gained popularity and widespread consumption within Aboriginal communities since the early 30’s. Though not part of our ‘traditional’ diet, processed meat has been embraced due in part to its affordability and widespread distribution within our communities. As the champions of adaptability and warriors of survival, Indigenous Peoples all around the world know how to make things our own.
